A field guide

Survive the island,
one turn at a time.

Ironveil is an offline, turn-based Norse survival strategy game. You play against a bot—not another online player—and the choices you make now shape the seasons ahead.

1. Choose a god—and a rival

Play as Freya, Thor or Loki. Each can use a god power once per turn without ending the turn: Freya spends 1 food to send wolves scouting for three rounds (the scouting is private); Thor spends 1 fire and 1 iron to strike the rival’s shelter from anywhere on the island; Loki spends 1 wood to plant a decoy resource that looks real to the rival. Your opponent is a bot. Choose its temperament—balanced, raider, gatherer or turtle—to change how it approaches the match.

2. Gather, shelter and stay alive

Manage your food, warmth, health and resources as you explore the island. Gather what you need, build and protect shelter, and keep an eye on the cost of every move. A match is a strategic duel, not a real-time action game.

3. Read the seasons

A full match runs for 56 rounds through summer, autumn, winter and thaw, with winter returning twice more. Cold grows more dangerous in winter, and the landscape changes what resources are available. Gather and prepare while conditions are kind; keep enough warmth and food to last through harsher turns.

4. Look beyond the Veil

The Veil obscures much of your rival’s situation. Their position can be tracked, but their details are not always visible. Scouting and some rune powers reveal clues. Treat what you cannot see as uncertainty—not as information you already have.

5. Spend runes with purpose

Find runes across the island. Any three runes can invoke a rune power: double your next food harvest, damage a rival shelter, make the rival lose a turn, reveal their inventory, gain an extra move or burn up to three of their wood. Each can change the balance of a match.

6. Choose one of three victories

  • Survival: defeat your rival, or outlast hunger and cold.
  • Dominance: after a gather or steal, lead your rival by at least two in three resource types.
  • Ragnarok: within two grid steps of Yggdrasil, spend two runes and two food to begin the rite, then hold it through your next turn.

Every choice carries weight. Read the board, weigh your resources and plan for the season ahead. Save a match on this device and resume it later; match history is local too. The offline game works without an account or internet connection. In the Release profile, each turn has a 24-hour window; the 120-second Test profile is for development.
